If you would like to forward a domain name that you have to a different domain address or subdomain, a good way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain name being forwarded loses all its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it's directed to. This way, if you use a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be pointed to the site that you've created, but it will also be displayed in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to redirect all the traffic from different subdomains to their main domain name, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain since this type of a record set up for the main domain renders it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which we offer with each and every shared hosting, allows you to create CNAME records for any domain or subdomain hosted inside the account with only a few clicks. If you're not certain how to go about it, you can check the video tutorial that's available in the CP, read the in depth Help article on the subject, or just simply contact us and we can help you 24/7, although it is not likely you'll experience any issues as all it takes to create a new CNAME record is to choose a domain/subdomain, type in the hostname you're pointing to, and save the modification. The new record is going to be fully active within the hour. Using CNAME records permits you to have better control of your domain names and website content and our system is simple and user-friendly enough to allow people who have no previous experience to set up this sort of records easily.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

You'll be able to set up, edit and delete CNAME records really easy with all of our semi-dedicated server plans. The accounts are controlled via the custom Hepsia hosting Control Panel, and in one of its sections you will see all records for any domain or subdomain you have added in your account. To create a new record, you only have to pick the hostname that'll be forwarded (domain/subdomain), input where it will be forwarded to, select the record type, that'll be CNAME in this case, and you will be ready. Even if you haven't used a web hosting service before, our Control Panel is incredibly intuitive to use, so you will not have any problems. We also have a short video and an in-depth help article on how to create a CNAME record, both of which are available in the exact same section of Hepsia. With this feature, you could easily use a domain hosted on our cutting edge cloud hosting platform for a site created somewhere else, set up a custom webmail login address with any of your domain names, and a lot more.
